Paid R16000 + to close my account in Nov 2021. Now I'm stuck with insurance debt I know nothing about . Never claimed for 17 +years

I have been using Edgars for 30 plus years and have been a faithful account holder. When I realized that I'll no longer have income due to going on pension, I visited Edgars, Spitz , Makro and game to close my accounts. I explained to the lady that I wanted to close my account with Edgars because I was no longer going to receive income. November 2021 I was told to pay R16163.30 to close my account, which I did immediately at Edgars (Polokwane, landros branch) . To my surprise I'm told I owe R5000 plus for insurance, Insurance I have no idea about. When I complained to Edgars (Polokwane , landros branch ) I was not helped but told to contact this insurance company that I had made clear that I new nothing about . Nevertheless I sent an email to *** and got a response that this insurance was made Feb 2007 and June 2011. I know nothing about these insurances that are being talked about! Also why was my account then not closed when I requested it to be closed? If this is how they treat there loyal customers I am extremely disappointed. I need that R5000 plus cancelled of an insurance I know nothing about. Imagine for insurance 17 and 12 years just paying and paying not claiming because I knew nothing about it. I feel exploited all meaning monthly I was paying for something I knew nothing about . On top of that why then was it not closed when I went to close my account in November 2021.
