Identity Theft to the Max – No System Controls in Place Online Credi

To All Readers and Edgars -

I have just landed and arrived home from a business trip when my phoned rang at 19h. When I have answered I first though it’s a sales call from Edgars and quite agitated I wanted to hang up. Luckily I did not. The person on the other side of the phone informed me that an Edgars account was opened with my ID number. A fair amount of credit was spent in Pretoria (couple of branches in PTA). I live in the Eastern Cape and I came back from the Western Cape. Strange……….

As he hang up I have phoned the Edgars ***** department just to make sure someone is not pranking me. It was no prank…… Edgars informed me that I need to fill in an affidavit at the police station and bring my ID to the nearest Edgars store to start with and settle the dispute (for what???? I’m not involved, just my ID number is in this). 3 hours of my life and phone calls wasted. Time I will never get back!!

Sa****ay morning I completed the affidavit at the police station and drove to the nearest Edgars. When I arrived at the branch they informed me that Edgars require a certified copy of my ID….. Again I drove back to the police station to get my copy certified. Another 2 hours wasted. Arrived there and started to fill in the forms. Another 30 minutes wasted.

During this time I have gathered the following Information: The application was completed online by the *********, there were no bank statements. FICA documents were not in place. Edgars, firstly how can you allow online applications to obtain credit? Secondly the FICA documents; if your system controls procedures were in place this would not have happened! Thirdly, how will you compensate me for my time, parking fees, petrol, phone calls, lost of income during the time in order to fight a battle that you have started?

Regards,

CH

Hi Edgars -
This is shocking!
No feedback, no reference number communicated to me via the telephone.
How will you compensate me for my time, parking fees, petrol, phone calls, loss of income during the time in order to fight a battle that you have started?

CH
