Heavy Handed collection
After loosing my job 4 years ago, I went through extreme pressure to keep my payment commitments to Edgars, then eventually over a year ago the account was paid up. I requested Edgars to have the account closed, and never received any feedback, so I assumed that the account was non existent. On 28 Sept 2017, my wife purchased some items for R448.90. I had not known about this until 17 October 2017 when I received a statement showing the purchases. I immediately started getting calls from MDP attorneys, sometimes 3 or 4 times a day. When I told my wife that it seems like someone was using my closed Edgars account, she told me that she had bought some items. I was furious, not only with my wife, but also with Edgars as this account was supposed to be closed. I called the Edgars call centre to find a way to resolve the issue and as told to settle the balance. I went into the store at Chatsworth Centre to pay the balance on 30 Oct, less than 2 weeks from receiving my statement and the amount quoted was over R620. I was shocked and asked the store to query this with their client services. They spoke to Lera Lehong, ref ********** 2982/go and I was advised to settle the balance of R448.90 and any additional charges were to be reversed. I asked Lera Lehong to instruct the store to put this resolution in writing so that it was more official, and this was done. At the store, the assistant Duxina told me to come in after a week to request a paid up letter. On 23 Nov I again started receiving threats from MDP Attorneys, so I was quite surprised. I went in again to the Chatsworth Centre store and I was assisted by Vaneela, a supervisor who was fami**** with this case. She promised that here manager Ashveer would liaise with the finance department and settle the query. Today, I was called by the Chatworth Centre store, by Vaneela to say that Edgars would not reverse the penalty and I need to pay the extra charges. At the time that my wife made the purchases, Edgars had loaded a credit limit of R3450, which I had not requested, then on 07 October this had been reduced to zero, after the purchase. Now it looks like Edgars had made a mistake and are making me pay for it. They had also listed my account as default on Experion, and this almost compromised my credit facilities of my business. Hopefully Edgars would admit fault and reversed the charges. Alternately I would just pay the small balance and keep my name clear. If they don't I wish Edgars every bit of misfortune, and hope that their competition eventually drives them out of the market. I wish that all consumers become aware of Edgars underhanded and dishonest practices and purchase elsewhere. Edgars, have a terrible Christmas business, and hope you fail in 2018.
