Have been waiting for over a month to receive confirmation of account being closed

On the weekend of 22 September 2018, I went into the Baywest store to pay up and close my account. I requested confirmation of my account being closed. The person assisting said that it would take 48 hours to process and that it will be emailed to me. This is so that I can be sure that the account is closed and that my credit record is updated accordingly.

I never received the confirmation. It was never sent.

I called the Customer Service line on 29 September 2018 and spoke to Aneesa who blamed a system error for me not receiving confirmation of my account being closed. She promised to have one sent to me within 48 hrs.

Till today 1 November 2018 I have not received confirmation of my account being closed (yet they can conveniently still email me marketing and promotional material). And my credit record still reflects that I have an Edgars account, which means it was never updated on the credit bureau/properly closed by Edcon! I fail to understand how it takes less than 30 minutes to open an Edcon account, but it takes more than a month to close/confirm it is closed.

Thank you for making contact with us regarding your requested account closure . Please note that the account has a block code on it currently which will prevent any future purchases on the account .
Kindly note that we will escalate to our accounts team to permanently close your account and provide you with feedback. We apologise for the frustrations caused to you in this regard.

This upsets me so much because the first person from the call centre asked me I wanted to block my account instead of closing it, and I had specifically said no, I want it closed! I am still waiting for a response from Edgars and without action your apologies mean nothing to me. If I do not receive confirmation by the end of the day, I will be forced to seek assistance from the relevent Ombudsman or National Consumer Commission.
