Handling and repair costs

In Nov 2014, I took my phone in for repairs at Edgars Protea Glen for a phone that was not switching on... after checking batteries I took it in for repairs as the phone is insured. I was told this is not covered by the insurance and it would be sent to MTN for repairs. After getting a statement from head office as proof of purchase the phone was sent for repairs. HVRC called the shop with a R1978 quote to fix a R2000 rand Lumia 520 plus R330 handling fee. There was no response from Edgars so the phone was nearly discarded. After I followed up I was told of the costs (R2308) When I told them it was too much and to return the phone was told I need to pay the R330.
I was never told about the R330 cost and nowhere on the repair document does it state this.
ISSUE: Edgars never told me about the R330 and they kept telling me my phone was not ready everytime I inquired while they never tracked the status.
I want my phone back and was never told about the R330 plus R1800 is too much to fix a R2000 phone.
I gave them my numbers on the Edcon facebook page 2 weeks ago after their request and still no response from them.
All info and costs (R330) should have been communicated upfront

Hello Morphius,

As per our telephonic discussion; kindly note we have liaised with the store manager and they confirmed that the handling fee will be paid into MTN's bank account so that your cell phone may be released. We apologise for the overall experience, but once your cell phone is back in the store you will be notified.
