False Advertising Edgars Malmesbury

I herby wish to bring the following under your attention.

On 22nd June 2016 I visited the local Edgars Store in Malmesbury to purchase a pair of sneakers for my boy as a birthday present.

As I peruse the sport shoe section and noticed that there is a up 50% sale on selected sneakers. I selected a pair that my boy wanted and approached the teller to make the purchase. As she scanned the item it still reflected the price as R499.95.Upon my enquiry as to the discount the teller said that she will go and check the display. Upon her return she explained that the sale display was placed wrongly and it should have faced the opposite direction to reflect the sale items behind. I argued that it is not my problem that the sale display is facing the wrong direction. I then asked to speak to the store manager with regard to this matter. I was informed that the store manager is on leave and that I can speak to her assistant.

The assistant Manager and when I explained my complaint she just responded that the board was facing the wrong direction and that there is no sale on that sneakers. She then walked away and left me standing there. She was vey non nonchalant in handling my complain. I then purchase the shoes as it was what my son desired for his birthday. I then asked the contact particulars of the customer care department to lay an official complaint in this regard.

As a loyal customer with an Edgars account dating back more than 20 years I feel that I was not treated fairly. I have always comp**** by paying my account on time and have not defaulted any payments. The manner my complained was treated with total disregard and not serious by the staff has left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

I wish to convey the following.

No apology for the display facing the wrong direction was given by the assistant store manager. The manner the assistant store manager handled the complain with total disregard.

The consumer protection act ,protects consumers against misleading advertising which I felt was done here.

By advertising a sale a legitimate expectation is created that when you buy a product that you will get a discount as advertised.

The fact that the sale advertising board was facing the wrong direction should not be an excuse to the customer as the staff on duty should always ensure that correct products on sale should be displayed at the right place.

I have taken a photo with the sale board facing the item underneath which I then purchase with the expectation that it is a sale item

I requested that the discount be granted to me as displayed by the sale board

Your feedback in this regard are appreciated.
