Exchange not honoured

I received a fragrance gift for Christmas from my mom. I don't need it as I have plenty. Went to Edgars to exchange it for something else. The product was now marked down to 50% and I can only take something to the new marked down price. I feel this is unfair as my mom paid the full value for the item. If you only knew how much I was going to spend today to redo my new house.
