Edgars sms vouchers false marketing

I received an sms from edgars stating that if i purchase for R600 or more i would receive a R600 voucher, OR if i purchase R1200 or more a R1200 voucher.....i made a purchase of R1499 within the prescribed time ...after 2 weeks of me enquiring about the voucher, a call centre agent called me to offer me a R600 voucher. I told her that this is incorrect as i purchased for R1200....she then proceeded to tell me that i misunderstood the sms sent to me. I explained to her that the sms and link were in very clear english and any person would understand it as I did. She then said it was a mistake on the marketing departments side. Clearly this is a **** from edgars marketing department to increase sales the offer lower value vouchers than those promised.....this is ***** edgars!!! You cannot trick long standing customers like this. Stat true to your word and give me the correct voucher!!!!!

Dear Tayra,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us,  we do apologise for any inconvenience caused.  With reference to the proof you provided as was requested, your sms did advise that you needed to spend R600 or more and you would get R600 off your next purchase.  The message then provided you with link for terms and conditions, that further informed you of what the promo entailed and how to qualify.

The terms and conditions were split between the sms’s sent to customers for R1200 and R600  Customers would have needed to refer to the terms and conditions that matched the sms they received.  Kindly note that you were therefore provided with the correct voucher code as your initial offer was for R600.  Your reference remains the same:
***/GO

Kind Regards

The Edgars Team

Hi The link sent to me did not specify that I should refer to specific terms and conditions. It read "R 600 offer OR R 1200", any reasonable person would have the understanding that it meant either spend R 600 OR R 1200. If we were not supposed to refer to ALL the details in the link, WHY was it sent to me ???. WHY was a link with OTHER options sent to me, if it did not relate to me, or specify which t&c was applicable to me ONLY? Maybe you need to go back and READ the options in the link sent out, and advise me WHERE in that link does it say REFER to specific T&C or should the customers just guess what you are thinking ?? Clearly this was just a marketing tactic to increase your purchases with false advertising and misinforming customers. I have purchased for R 1400 and should receive a voucher for R 1200 as promised in your advert! Regards

After consultation and adjudication with the Consumer good ombudsman's office Edgars agreed to provide me with the correct voucher of R 1200.
