EDGARS **** - ******** customers with R0 balance on their account with a service fee.

Edgars has become an *************** company to purchase from. My wife recently had to sign a till slip accepting some changes to terms and conditions at Edgars regarding service fees. She called Edgars the very same day to confirm if she would be charged a service with a zero balance on her account or not. The Edgars consultant said absolutely not. She had used her account to purchase on two occasions and settled the account at the end of the month leaving her with a R0.04 credit balance. Edgars then proceeded to charge her an account protection fee of R3.50 and on the 7th of the month a service fee of R22.80. She called Edgars again to find out why they had charged her and she said that it had been a mistake and that they would credit her account. She asked the consultant to please email her confirmation of this and the consultant said that they were not allowed to. My wife then received her latest statement this month and has yet again been charged a service fee of R22.80 leaving her with a balance of R49.06. She called up Edgars again to ask why the fees had been charged and they said that it was because she did not have a zero balance on her account. We spoke to Mzamali Ndove, a supervisor who said that the charges were correct and we could check with the NCR. She phoned the NCR who confirmed that these charges were indeed incorrect and that we should lodge a complaint with the NCR in this regard. The thing that angers me the most is how these massive corporations are allowed to bully innocent customers whos accounts are in very good standing and get away with it. Just think about this for a minute - a massive company like Edgars does this same thing to 200 000 customers that would equate to R2 280 000 in pure profit for doing nothing other than taking advantage of the general public. Edgars you have disgusted us with these cheap tactics! You should be ashamed.

What is even more annoying is that we had to spend over 40 minutes on the phone of which 20 minutes was waiting to speak to a supervisor at our expense to fix their mistake.

For the everyone of you out there, I urge you to be vigilant and keep a watchful eye over your accounts with corporations such as Edgars.
