Edgars is also *****ing money from me

On my 1t statement that showed a service fee, I contacted customer care as I did not recall giving any permission to deduct/charge me and this practice of just charging customers is contrary to the Credit Act.

It took a while for Customer Service to reply, but i was told this is a new service fee tht was optional, but they said if they were charging me the fee then I must have agreed to it. I know I would never agree to an optional charge. Why pay if you dont have to pay? I then wanted proof of me having agreed to the charge. First i was sent to the brnch, then they put me back to Customer Care (Hd to hang on the line for over half an hour), They said proof would be with ABSA, I then wrote again to Customer Service and was sent a copy of my signature which was supposed to prove I had given permission for the charge.

As all signatures in Edgars are electronic, it would be very easy to take any signature and cut and paste it. In my case the signature was dated the day I paid my account. I remember that it was not the first time I was asked if I wanted to increase my limit and I said I dont want to increase m limit. The staff member then said that I must sign to decline the increased limit, They ticked a few boxes and I signed. I can only think this is the easy way to get people to sign to agree to the fees. You think you are signing for one thing and then they are getting your signature **********ly.

I can see why thousands of clients have left Edgars and see that the new Edgars is still the same crowd, They do not want to take the service fee off my account. It looks like I will have to take th same approach as my wife and close my account to stop the ********** fees being charged.

Edgars, please be realistic. Who will sign for a fee if they dont have to, so reverse the fees and do business honestly.

We have received your concerns and apologise for the inconvenience caused by the matter. Please note that the service fee will not be levied to your account without your authorisation. Although it has become necessary to charge a service fee, we have taken the plight of our customers into consideration and discounted this fee to R22.80 per month which equates to R273.60 yearly as opposed to the prescribed maximum fee of R60 allowed per month by the NCA (R720 yearly) . As noted within the letter , your consent will be required when next purchasing in store and should you wish to decline the implementation of the service fee, Edcon reserves the right to action your account accordingly. You have been a longstanding customer and we thank you for your patronage and hope that you will continue to be part of the Edcon family.
Kind regards
