Edgars displays huge price boards but items are priced differently at the till and refuses to allow me to purchase the item that the board displayed
What started off as a great mothers day yesterday (13 may 2018) ended off with such frustration and disappointment. I decided to shop at Edgars in Westwood mall to purchase two mother's day gifts, one for my mum and one for my mother in law. i came across the 'shoes' as pictured below which has been set up below this huge 'pricing' as stipulated below, for R179. Seeing this i decided to take two pairs, upon inspecting the shoes before i make my final decision, i noticed two tags on the shoes, one tag was blank and the other tag had a price tag for R399. i was extremely pleased at this point to know that Edgars had a special for these items and even decided to take a 3rd pair for myself. Upon reaching the till, the lady told me that these shoes were R399 each, i then informed her that the board clearly states R179, she then told me that yes it states R179 but FROM R179 and not R179 exactly. i then told her that the board did not have the word 'FROM' on it and asked if she could follow me to the stand and i would gladly show her. She then realized that i was right and decided to cal the manager. The manager on duty was Mondli Kuluse(refused to give me his full name at first), he approached my husband and i from about a metre away and said that i should read clearly, the board says lace up sneakers and the item below was boots. as a customer, all i could see was lace up and the difference between boots and sneakers these days is extremely vague. i then explained to him that he could have a Ferrari under that signage/pricing and it will still stand for that price as it is displayed and marketed by the store, the customer has a right to purchase the item for that price. He then told me that it was an in house mistake and the boots is for R399 non negotiable and he walked away before we could even conclude our discussion. At this point, another employee from Edgars came in to speak to us and asked us what was going on, after we explained he said that he is going to scan the item to check the actual pricing, when he returned after 10 minutes, he said that the boots is R399. I then told him that i would like to purchase the items for the stipulated price, he then told me that he cannot help me because it is not his department and he is doing me a favor by coming to me. i then asked him what is the point of coming to me if it is not his department in the first place and he is just wasting my time as i am extremely frustrated at this point.I then asked the gentelman whos name was Ayanda for his surname and he refused to give it to me as well, after some time he told me that his full name is Ayanda Gumane(not sure if i have the spelling right ). I was now left standing unattended by any representative that could assist me, no apologies and no explanation for my request. It is extremely frustrating to be dealt with in such a manner, the manager did not have the decency to speak to me face to face, he stood metres apart from me and just walked away...that is definitely not management behavior. A manager, is a representative of the store an its brand as well, a manager who deals with customers on a first hand basis should surely pass the training and customer service criteria. At this store, the way my matter was handled made me feel small and unworthy of receiving the attention that was needed. i did not walk in the store looking for cheap item or 'lucks' i came in looking to purchase items to make a great day more pleasant but i certainly ended up with the extreme opposite. The CPA has many laws about displayed pricing and laws around two prices being displayed, i am sure that Edgars is fully aware of these laws and will take the necessary steps to correct this incident. i do have more pics of the two price tags if required. i have full pictures of the price tag and the displayed price.
