Edgars account closure LIES!!
I am beyond upset, I am now furious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the 13th October 2020 I visited the Northgate Edgars store for the second time to close my account. The first time I was told that the system was down. My previous balance dated 8 September 2020 was R191.41 but I had already paid R200.00 on the 26th August 2020 which meant my account was a few rand in credit. At the store I was taken to a landline and given the customer care number to contact. It took approximately 25 minutes for someone to answer the phone. The lady that eventually spoke to me informed me that there was still an outstanding balance of R80.17 which had to be paid before she could close the account. I told her I had already paid R200.00 but she informed me that that payment had not covered the club fee, insurance and the monthly service fee which had kicked in AFTER my payment. I duly went and payed the R80.17 and went back to the call. The lady then told me that she had closed the account. I specifically asked if it was definitely closed and that there would not be further club fees, insurance and services fees charged again. She said that the account was registered for closure and it would take 30 days and there would not be further charges. She also mentioned that I would get an SMS/email confirming the closure. There should be a recording of this conversation somewhere. To date, I have received no such communication. However, today 13 November, via email, I received an account!!!!! What is on the itemised billing? The Club Fee, The Insurance and the service fees... I have heard other horror stories regarding Edgars and account closure. It seems as though the 30 day closure period is a means of keeping you hooked in because the monthly fees kick in on the 8th of the month and that falls within the 30 days. I am appalled that the information given to me was a blatant lie…..
