Edcon - Will not cancel Account
I have had an Edgars account for many years. Recently I have not been using it, and the R53 club fee that goes off the account every month - well that's R636 a year that could be used somewhere else.
So in January 2019, I sent an email, please close account. Instead I get an email asking for FICA, I respond on 29/1/2019 - no need please close account. Then I get a call from FICA department - I politely tell them no need, please close account.
No response, and fees keep coming off, on 7/2/2019 I respond to another FICA email a little more enthusiastically … no response. On 13/2/2019 I respond to YET ANOTHER FICA email with the same effect ...no response.
Time marches on, I figure if I just ignore them they will go away ….. Nope, the statements keep coming with their R53 club fee every month. Finally at the end of April, I get a call from their FICA department again, and the poor lady sends me a different email address, to which I send my "new" request to cancel the account. On 22/5/2019 I get a call from their accounts department telling me they want to cancel the account but there is an amount of R203 outstanding … club fees from the last 4 months of the account not being cancelled. I am done fighting, I tell her I will settle it immediately, and will she then cancel the account - Yes I am told. So I make the payment. At the end of May, guess what? Another statement for a new R53, and at the end of June another statement now for R106.
It seems it is harder to get rid of an Edgars account than it is to get rid of a television license
At the end of the day it all could be avoided by companies making information easily accessible on how to close accounts on every statement - including who to contact. This, coupled with customer service staff being trained suffficently to deal correctly and efficiently with all aspects of customer service, would lead customers to having a pleasant experience and being happy to recommend a brand to others.
