Difficulty of closing an store account

My Husband has been trying to close off his Edgars account for months now with no luck. we went to Edgars in Mall of the north in Polokwane several times, last time we went he was told that after his first request to close off his account, he went and purchase somethings using his account. His account was never closed because it seemed like he was still using it. The story does not add up because he never bought anything after his request. they cant tell him where he bought, or what he bought. the Account keeps on adding money while he paid off the account before his first request to close it off.
