DEFECTIVE ITEM - MISPLACED TILL SLIP - TAGS WERE STILL ON BUT WAS REFUSED AN EXCHANGE

Dear Sir/Madam,

About a month ago, I purchased a unicorn dress up set for R130 at the Edgars store in Pavilion. Upon giving it to my niece one week later, one of the ears had fallen off and a part of the Alice band was falling apart. Unfortunately I had misplaced the receipt. I thought that an exchange could easily be done seeing as the tags were still on and the item was defective. However when I returned to the same store I was told I had to have the till slip. In your returns and exchanges policy, I quote the following:

"6 months Imp**** warranty for defective goods (CPA act) In the event that your items are defective within the first 6 months of purchase, subject to inspection we may repair, exchange or refund the defective merchandise."

In the abovementioned excerpt, it DOES NOT state that I must have a till slip in the case where an item is DEFECTIVE. By their own policy, Edgars should have exchanged or at least tried to repair the defective item but I was refused service. It's not as though I was demanding a refund, all I wanted was to exchange the defective item. I am very unimpressed by this level of service.
