Declined my application

I recently paid up my Jet card and closed it then I went to edgers to open a new account. I didn't receive feedback in about 3 days I called their accounts department and they told me that my application was declined and they couldn't give me a reason. I went to the Big edgers at Jhb only to be told that my credit record is bad therefore I can't open an account. This is very surprising because I don't have a clothing account any where and my phone contract is well managed as well as my personal loan with ABSA. I need a proper explanation as to why I can't open an account there and my other option when I went to edgers was to find out if they could activate my old jet account and reduce my credit limit.
