HelloPeter Complaint (Edgars)
Title: Unauthorised Edgars Club Edgars card no:*** Charges – No Consent Given
Review: I am a 65-year-old customer who opened an account with Edgars in July 2025 because I wanted to buy myself a perfume. I only used the account once for a small purchase of around R200.
Shortly after, I received a call about an “Edgars Club” membership. I listened and asked a few questions, but at no point did I say “yes” or agree to join. Despite this, Edgars has been billing me R179 per month for 3 months (a total of R537).
I requested the call recording, and while Edgars provided it, the recording clearly shows that I never gave explicit consent to join. Simply listening to an offer or saying “okay” does not amount to agreement. Yet, Edgars insists I must pay and refuses reversals.
This is unfair, misleading, and goes against the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), which protects consumers from being billed for services without their clear and informed consent.
I request the following:
1. Immediate cancellation of this so-called membership.
2. A full reversal/refund of the unauthorised charges.
3. Written confirmation that no further deductions will be made.
If this is not resolved, I will escalate the matter to the Consumer Goods & Services Ombud (CGSO) for further action.
Customers trust Edgars with their accounts, and I never expected to be treated this way. I joined to spoil myself with a perfume, not to be trapped in unwanted charges.
Kindest regards Desiree Achary
