Charged a service fee despite maintaining account
I have kept my account up to date for the past few months. In fact I have statements with R0.00 installment due. Now, I do not understand why on my current statement I am being charged R22.80 service fee. Especially after making a payment way over what my installment would have been had I not been paying in advance. Are you punishing me for refusing to join the VIP Club? In fact, I still get annoying calls from *** / *** despite having communicated my lack of interest in joining that club.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. The National Credit Act (NCA) allows for Credit Providers to charge a Service Fee on accounts. This fee is used by the Credit Provider to manage the administration of the Credit Book and other applicable expenses. South African Absa owned accounts opened from 1st November 2012 will now be charged a Service Fee of R22.80 from January 2016.
