cant close my account

i gave instruction to close my account with Edgars in Feb this year, i then received a call from a consultant asking me to please consider keeping my account open as it will not cost me anything unless i use the account and there will be more partners joining with Edgars. I then start receiving bills for card fees etc. i emailed them again telling them that i will not pay any fees since i was told otherwise. i kept trying to close my account and every i get statements, its 8 months later and my account is still open and they now say that i must pay R350 before the account is closed....why should i pay them a cent when i was closing my account and they begged me to keep it open, had this woman who called me told me the truth about fees whether i used the card or not, then i would not have kept the account open.
