BAD SERVICE FROM EDGARS
My mom went to the Edgars store last year to get her account up to date and close it after as she knew she will be going on Retirement and could no longer afford to keep an account open. She asked the teller to give her full outstanding balance which she paid in cash and then asked the teller to close the account. This was round about last year April - May. She then received a call from SSDA, attorneys from Edgars, to say that she still has an outstanding balance with Edgars and never paid it. To her dismay she advised them no-one told her the account was still open, she never once received a letter or call to give her a statement that her account was still open. I then called the lawyers and they advised I need to call Edgars. After heavy back and forth they finally spoke to me via email and advised that they have no record in black and white advising that my mom wanted her account to be closed and cannot clear the account. From +-R300 to now R607.07 because of interest that accumulated, I now have to pay in order to close the account because my mom can no longer afford this as she is on retirement and is currently receiving no income. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN EDGARS!!! I AM GLAD I HAVE NEVER AND WILL NEVER OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM.
In response to your recent enquiry with EDCON, kindly note that if a call was made to our call centre or email sent to our accounts department confirming the outstanding balance to be paid at that time then we would have trace of the conversation to prove that your mum was given that amount to pay and that would enable us to assist further.
We cannot assist now if the cashier had given an amount with no record if it being said therefore we will not be able to clear the balance of the account.
I do understand the frustrations this has caused and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.***/GO
Kind regards
