Bad practice

I had an Edgars account 7 years ago. I had a balance outstanding after I lost my job. Yesterday some attorney contacted me on behalf of the company asking for a settlement amount and my banking details. According to the documentation I received when I opened my account 12 years ago, there was an additional amount that you would pay every month as insurance if you are out of work to ensure that the debt then will be covered. Furthermore according to the legal advice I obtained edgars can not hold you liable for money owed if you are not able to pay for more then 5 years. In addition to this I do not feel comfortable paying money to a third party in this dispute who would not send me documentation via email after I requested statements ect. This is very unprofessional and seems like ******* activity.
