Mergers and acquisitions are never pleasant. Customers are left scrambling to figure out how the new system is meant to work. I feel you have two types of staff members during this phase. You'll either get the age old "sorry, we're going through some changes, now bug off", or you get those few individuals that actually try to retain you no matter what comes there way.
