Eddie Gasson

Eddie Gasson or Edward Gasson is a carpenter operating in the Bellville area. I contracted him to build and erect a storeroom and a pergola with a “lean to” at my home in Claremont. I paid a 70% deposit to his account which was a substantial amount of money (R63 000.00).

He arrived at my home and started to build the storeroom off the garage. He never quite completed this storeroom. He still had to complete and fit the flashing of the roof and the gutters as per his quotation. He then started with the build of the “lean to”, which would follow on to the pergola. The material for the pergola was not on site and of course he promised that he would be on site within the next few days saying that the material was in the process of being cut to size. What he never told me was that he had used the money for the material to live off and that he did not have the money to purchase the material for the pergola. He then stopped taking all phone calls from my wife or myself. After 3 months he eventually told me the truth and that he does not have the money for the material as he had spent it. I then had to pay for the material from his supplier. He then came to site to start with the building of the pergola. Again, he started and did not complete the finer details of the pergola. But the standard of workmanship was shocking. Since then, I have had to contract a professional roofing company to make the roof watertight as it leaked like crazy. Also, all the flashing that he installed was done poorly and leaked. To date he still needs to complete this pergola and the storeroom and just refuses to come to site to do so. His workmanship is of poor quality, and I have had to pay an additional R12 000 to complete the work that he was supposed to do and what he quoted on. Please be warned that contracting Eddie Gasson is just not worth the few cents that you think that you will be saving. This man is such a **** and the stories he has told me as to why he cannot be on site is just astonishing. Lastly, his workmanship is poor and should you contract him, you will be doing so at your own risk. A job that was supposed to take 2 weeks, eventually took 3.5 months to complete and took 3.5 months. But, the lies that this man came up with was just something else. This just show you that he is devious and needs to be avoided at all cost.
