On the 6th of June 2016, I went into a Samsung Phone Shop at Menlyn Shopping Mall which is franchised to Edcon looking for a Samsung J7 16gig Dual Sim LTE phone. I was attended by a shop assistant who told me they 'had the phone I was looking for', and sold me one rushingly on the closing hour since they said were about to close the shop (it was around 19h00, their knock-off time). I made a cash payment using a card and left with the phone.

However, I later discovered at home the following day on opening the phone, that the phone was not LTE/4G but only 3G. I had to call the shop on the 8th of June asking for a swap supposing they had mistakenly packed a 3G model instead of the LTE model. The respondent over the phone told me that the LTE model of the same phone is usually available on a contract but advised I talk to the supervisor/manager on what I need to do for a possible swap. I was handed over to the manager who told me I needed to bring the phone in a very good state for them to accept it back. I did that on the very same day at around 16h55 since the phone had not been used except placing sim to test/detect the LTE network. At that moment the shop assistants and supervisor then enquired if at all they had any LTE model of the same phone and it came to their realisation that the particular model 'was not available in SA', according to their last minute internal enquiry, though it is available elsewhere but supp**** from out of SA.

They then told me to buy a different model (at an extra cost and not really what I was looking for) if I wanted LTE which I was not in a possition to do. Rather, I advised if they didnt have the J7 16gig LTE model from any of their shops (which they had promised me from time of purchase), I would rather take back my cash and buy elsewhere. They told me their policy does not allow refunds in cash but rather through 'gift cards' of the purchase value, which I can not use elsewhere but only within their shops. I was puzzled at why I was put in a position where I could not get a cash refund (using the same card I used for purchase) but rather forced to buy other products which I do not want at the moment. Since when do I as an Edcon Customer (and account holder) lose my right to recieve back my cash after buying a wrong product?

I left the phone in the shop and up to now have not recieved any feedback from responsible shop management. I need my cash refund a.s.a.p so I may buy elsewhere my phone gift of choice. I need a response from Edcon and my contact details are available on the form.
