Just Gatvol!

It’s taken me so long to get to this place and now that I am here, I wonder why I didn’t do this sooner.

On 13/04/2016 I made contact with Edcon to find out what my cover was like on my hospital plan as I had just found out I was pregnant (I spoke to Tendani). I then discovered that my policy was all wrong. I took the policy out with Edcon in June/July 2011. I requested R800.00 cover which I then paid R61.50 for. Over the last 5 years the premium increased as did the cover. However, when I called, I was paying R90 odd and only got R480.00 cover. Cleary there was a problem here. At this stage, I expected that I would have close to if not more than R1000.00 cover. I have since then spoken to various people from Edcon to sort that whole mess out, which to date, has not been corrected. It’s so bad that I called in so many times that eventually I stopped taking down the details of the call. I just kept speaking to different people who just couldn’t help me sort my problem out! I tried phoning Hollard and they couldn’t help me. I went in store and they couldn’t help me either. I eventually got help from a supervisor in the Durban Call Centre who attempted at helping me sort this problem out but she too failed miserably. Renay Hendricks and her colleague Zanele handled my query. They somehow managed to get my query "sorted” this past December 2016 after waiting for months for them to check that I did in fact ask for R800 cover. At least that is what I thought till I got my "corrected" policy documents. The document stated that they had cancelled the old policy and gave me a new one for R800.00 cover and my premium was reduced to R61.50 as from January 2017. Like ***!!! Now someone please explain to me how they think I am supposed to be okay with this? What about all the years I paid for an increased cover and what about my 5 years’ cash back bonus that was due to me last year and what about my claim for the time I spent in hospital after my daughter was born? Not to mention the fact that all the waiting periods apply again as if I started this policy for the 1st time in Jan. Moving on. So naturally I called in to complain and again got nowhere! This time I asked for the number for the Ombudsman to lodge my complaint with them and was given the Edcon’s complaints dept. details. I called them to lodge a complaint thinking this would finely get sorted but no, I was wrong! I called the complaints dept. a few times and all they kept saying to me is that the case has been escalated and the Accounts manager would call me back. That was in March 2017 and yet nothing! The last call I made to them, I found out that they cancelled the policy completely. I didn’t ask for any of this, all I wanted was my original plans’ cover to be corrected to what is should have been if my plan ran correctly from the word go considering I paid the increased premium over the last +5years. I am just so Gatvol! If this complain gets no response, then it’s off to the Ombudsman I go.
