Edgars Gadget Insurance

I bought my cellphone last year in May sometime and took out insurance and the rewards card that was offered at Edgars. I diligently paid my premiums and at VAT increase time continued to pay as per usual.

Then I had the unfortunate event of my phone being ******. Then the nightmare began. First trying to do an online claim was not possible. So I had to take hours off my work schedule go sit at a police station and complete affidavits and all. Eventually after 3 days of going up and down I had all the required documents to submit a claim.

I went to Carnival Mall Edgars and the sales lady completed a claim form with all the required documentation that I handed over to her on 09/08/2018.

To date I have had no communication from either the store, the administrator or the insurer, on acknowledgement of receipt for the claim. I do not know if the claim has been accepted or repudiated. If repudiated the reasons for the decline.

No one calls but the insurance debit orders go off like clock work. When you try to claim it is near impossible to find any assistance or contact information. Is this not in contravention of the FAIS Code of Conduct or PPR?

Hi, I have been trying to get my claim resolved since 31/07/2018. I finally complained on Hello Peter on 07/09/2018. Then suddenly Edgars (Lindiwe from Edgars – Carnival Mall) calls me and advises me to approach another mall, another Edgars in order for Edgars to call you and I can explain how I lost my cellphone. She advised me that Hollard has been trying to get a hold of me but I have not had any calls on the phone. Anyway, She states that my affidavit falls short on explaining how I lost the phone and that I should go to Edgars to explain this. I would firstly like to state that nowhere in your claim forms does it make reference or space for me explaining how I lost the phone. You just require an affidavit (which had events and time lime of how and when I lost the phone). That being stated, I do not have the time to be going up and down to malls. I have a job to do. I work from 08h00 till 17h00, which co-incidentally those are your working hours as well. So does this mean my claim is never going to resolved or attended to? If you consider that I was told that I have to go to Edgars to say the below statement over the phone surely you can use my written explanation. Lindiwe indicated that I do not need to go and complete another affidavit (I was already not having this as I went through hell already to get this done). I do not have the time to be going to the mall daily in order for Hollard to do the right thing. Can no agent call me or supply me with some form of resolution instead of me going to the mall or completing another affidavit. This is really tedious and unfair business practice. It was easy to extract my premiums but now it's a struggle for you to fulfill your part of the agreement. Events pertaining to the loss: It was a Saturday, I was at my aunt’s funeral in the North West, Klerksdorp, Mahlosana. The cortege left for the cemetery at 11h00, when we returned from the gravesite I still had my phone with me. I traditionally cleansed my hands at the gate then proceeded to assist my other family members with dishing up food to the people who attended the funeral. I was standing behind a long steel table and handing out the food which was already dished out on to polystyrene plates, to the people that attended the funeral. Someone asked me for juice. I then placed the cellphone on the table, on my right hand side together with one of the polystyrene containers, turned to left bent down a grabbed a prefilled juice bottle to hand over to the person. Came back up and handed the juice over and continued to hand over food to the other people. When I was done I looked down and realised that my cellphone was gone. I asked the ladies next to me but we were all busy and nobody saw anything. Why does it take this long to provide feedback to a client. Please respond so that I can still have enough time to take this matter further. Kind Regards Melissa
