Account Protection Plan just a ****

My Mom was a Permanent Part timer at Jet EDCON Policy No: EDC *** since 07/02/2003 her contact was terminated reason being retrenchment on 28/08/2020.

She was paying for (Account Protection Plan) which cover (Permanent disabled and retrenchment upto R15000 ) and it was cancelled effective from 14/05/2021

But currently she has been threatened by some lawyers telling her she must settle the due amount. My question is why that Account Protection Plan cannot settle that Amount cause it has been doing some deduction from her salary since sh joined EDCON? Or was just a **** to reduce her salary and she said it was a must to have it
