ECSD Signage Wrap Fail

Background: I own a Scirocco TSI, was getting bored of the front and decided to pick up a Scirocco R bodykit form Jabsport. Kit was perfect fit and easy to install, no issues at all, now I needed to get the bumpers painted and matched, at which point I thought why not go for a complete new look and get a wrap. I was in love with nardo grey and decided on Gloss Nardo Grey… This is where it all went downhill. I’ve seen many “Wrap Horror Threads” and decided ill to go the proper people not just some guy in his backyard. After doing some research the best bet in PE area was ECSD signage. A quick search of their social media pages shows they do vehicle wraps for large companies such as Algoa FM & Tavcor PE! and Ford, so I assumed this was a safe bet. Got in touch with owner Gareth Wright and he let me know it would be R17 500 excl Vat or R17.5k if I paid cash. I agreed to get the wrap done and was super excited to see the outcome, but before going through with the deal I sent him a list of questions.

My questions: 1. I recently purchased a new bodykit, it is made of ABS plastic, would I need it to be primed before the wrapping or would it stick to the bumpers? 2. Do I have any Warranty/Guarantee on the wrap? 3. What brand of Vinyl is used? 4. What is the lifetime of the wrap or how long can I expect it to be on the vehicle? 5. Lastly, how long would you need the vehicle for?

His reply: 1. Vinyl doesn’t generally stick to after-market body kits. My suggestion would be to bring the body kit around so I can advise on the best way forward.(never advised me, just went ahead) 2. If you look after your vehicle and stay away from polish products etc, you should have no issues as I use a 10 year cast wrapping vinyl. Any issues caused by bad workmanship will be sorted out by ECSD, no questions asked. It is what I am know for so you need to have peace of mind when bring your vehicle to me. 3. Depending on the what supplier has stock, I use two brands – Hexis or Grafitack cast vinyl. 4. In South African conditions, 7 years. It states a 10 year vinyl but those are tested in European conditions. If the vehicle is not exposed to direct sunlight all the time, it should last longer than 7 years. 5. I will need your vehicle for 3 to 4 working days. This allows ECSD to strip, wrap & assemble your vehicle so you get the best quality.

The Situation:

1. Wrap is honestly a joke, upon seeing the car about a week after the wrap I was shocked. 2. Side skirts were barely hanging on 3. Wrap was bubbled and peeling everywhere 4. Original paint ********** on some parts of bonnet and can bee seen through wrap 5. Wrap not tucked under rubber seals 6. Multiple folds and imperfections 7. Fender completely bent 8. The job took much longer than claimed. (Car was sent in July, I got it back today in October) 9. Wrap is Matt not Gloss

How I approached things:

After messaging the owner exclaiming how upset I am with the wrap…

No reply ever since.

Got in touch with their secretary and they agreed to “redo” the wrap if I pay to get the kit sprayed at their ECSD scratch and dent company, to which I agreed. (R 8k later)

A few weeks later, they let me know I could collect my vehicle the next day at 4pm. (I stay 250 Km from PE) We made a trip down and were ready to collect the car at the time they stated… Car was not finished yet and I had to wait till 7:30. Finally got home and waited for the next morning to look at the car in the daylight. Same story, wrap peeling and bubbled all over. Had to send it back again…

The car has now been “redone” 4 times and still looks like ****. Had 3 people ask me who did the wrap, because “it looks like a child has done the work, I should get my money back”
