Touch Down Group Dunkeld Hotel

Although I made it ever clear during the booking process that we would be arriving after 10 pm at the Dunkeld Hotel due to a delayed flight , the security/resort on arrival was not prepared for our arrival. They did not have our booking and had to phone a manager to arrange for entry to the resort. We sat in our car at the gate awaiting the manager’s arrival and was only let into the resort 25 minutes after arrival once the manager gave us the room key that was assigned to a “Mr. Smith and family”. We arrived at 10:20 pm and arrived to our room at 10:50 pm. Really disappointing start to the overnight stay

For a hotel that charges more than R2000 a night (when the conservation fee is added to the booking), I would expect a couple of standard accessories and services included in the stay:

The room had no tissues in. I had a runny nose from sitting out in the cold waiting for the room key and there was not a tissue box in sight
All facilities at Dunkeld close down at 9 pm. Reception, the restaurant etc. There is a mini bar in the room with nothing in. I wanted bottled water prior to going to bed and had no water in the room and nowhere on the premises to get bottled water from after 9 pm. Surely the hotel could have anticipated that we would be arriving after closure and stocked the mini bar accordingly? We had come from a day of travel starting at 5 am and arrived at the hotel dead tired, hungry and thirsty.
I then wanted to make a cup of coffee for both my husband and I and used tap water in the kettle. Only to realise that there was only one sachet of coffee in the box provided.
We could not draw the curtains completely as the last two hooks on the curtain were missing and therefore the curtain draws only partially leaving a gap.
There were spider webs from the bathroom door to the air-conditioning unit, a clear sign that the room had not been appropriately cleaned prior to our arrival
There is a lovely fireplace provided in the room (a welcome relief to the cold evenings) but the wood for the fire place is huge bulky pieces with no kindling or smaller pieces provided making starting the fire in the fireplace close to impossible. There is only a small piece of fire lighter provided. Not enough to get huge pieces of wood burning and without kindling it is literally impossible to get a fire started. With reception closing at 9 pm, there is no help to get any problems in the room sorted out should the need arise.
There is a real lack of plug points in the room and not a single two point plug provided or any adaptors. Again, with reception being closed at 9 pm, there is no assistance relating to any need arising after the departure of the staff. The lack of adaptors meant that I was unable to charge my computer or cell phones. For a hotel charging these rates, sufficient plug points should be a standard provision. We had to unplug the bedside light (and electric blanket) in order to access a plug point and charge my husband’s laptop.
The carpet in the room appeared to be stained and dirty

Prior to going to bed I reviewed the file in the room. We planned our departure for 7:30 am and made arrangements with the people we were meeting at the end of our journey accordingly given that the booklet stated that the restaurant opens at 7 am for breakfast. So instead of departing early (at 6am) as we originally planned, we stayed to await the opening of the restaurant. On arrival at the restaurant at 7 am, a staff member informed us that although the restaurant doors open at 7 am, breakfast is only served from 8 am onwards and that we could wait outside until the start of breakfast. Unacceptable.

I am truly disappointed in my stay. And upon taking this up with Touch Down group, i had to plead with them for a response and was then 10 days later offered a 20% discount on my next stay! Shocking stay and even worse handling of the situation. I will never return even if i am paid to. They don't know how to run a decent hotel!

Dear Lee-Cooper,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your experience. This is certainly not the service we are accustomed to provide our clients with.

We will investigate on the matter and provide you with feedback as soon as possible.

Kind regards

Touch Down Group, i have given you 10 days to respond. Your consultant responded stating that they are sorry for my experience and that they want to offer me 20% discount on my next stay. I don't want to ever stay at Dunkeld again as it is not value for money and certainly well over priced. Given my experience and the level of service as well as the fact that i had to pay for a breakfast that i was unable to have because of your false advertising, i would be happy with a refund for my stay. Not only was the stay utterly disappointing, the manor in which your staff responded after a fair chance to set things right, is even more disappointing.

Touch Down Group - it has been months! Another two months and you have failed to response. Even after promises from top management to look into this matter and get back to me. Are you planning to just leave this unattended to in the hope that I forget?
