sold car, i wasn't allowed to remove belongings

I took my VW Polo in for valuation, owner, Elandre, wasn't available, left my key with the rude elderly man and asked the owner to call me back with a price for my car. I returned the next day to pick my car up, again Elandre wasn't there, the elderly man refused to give my car key back to me stating that it wasn't my car. I've ,made several phone calls to get hold of Elandre, with no luck. I was desperate to get my belongings out the car, jackets, winter tops, CD's, tools and a crate of collectable LP's was in the boot. Few days later i was very rudely informed by the elderly man that my car was sold and that it was no longer on the floor. I was ans still is stunned that my car was sold with all my belongings in. I personally went to speak to the owner and again he wasn't at work, the rude elderly man would not hear me out and i was basically sworn at. This is no way for a car dealership to do business, i am desperate to get my personal belongings back or some form of compensation.
