Low cost airline = Low service staff
Due to my not having a visa for the country I had booked for, the staff of Easyjet refused my boarding the aircraft. While I can understand their reasons for not allowing me to travel, I can not understand why their attitude was so bad about it. Given the circumstances, one would have expected some understanding but they were so rude adding insult to injury. It seems as though we, the consumer, have reached a stage where we may not get angry with staff but staff can get rude to customers and get away with it. For the record Easyjet: non-EU family members of EU citizens have a fundamental right (coming from the EU treaties) to travel together with their EU family members to any of the EU member states, even if they do not have the required visa. This right has been clarified and upheld in 2002 by the highest European court, the ECJ, in the case C-459/99 (MRAX vs Kingdom of Belgium), and has been incorporated explicitly into Directive 2004/38/EC. So train your staff better, and certainly train them in the art of tact and customer care. One thing is for certain, I will never book on a low cost airline again.
