Reconciling VAT is a mission

I have been trying to use Quickbooks 2017 desktop. Trying to get input VAT entered is a mission! Every purchase you make that you claim input VAT you have to create an order, then generate a receipt and then enter a bill and finally pay the bill. That's 4 separate steps1 It's fine if you are purchasing a few expensive items but not if you go to the local retail outlet to buy a widgets every other day. Whew!
