Easy Debts Solutions - Breaching POPIA confidently
This company made an unsolicited phone call to me today to offer me some sort of debt solution that I did not ask for and do not need.
I spoke to a consultant named Waseefa. She identified herself as an employee of Easy Debts Solutions.
When I asked her to spell her name, she became argumentative and asked me "why are you asking this information" - so I countered this and asked her who gave her the consent to phone my on my private cellphone number.
She said that she got it from a "Marketing database" and I asked her, who gave Easy Debts Solutions permission to access my data on any database at all. She said they only have my name, surname and cellphone number, and she said that none of this is personal information, and in response I asked again, when did I consent to them using and processing my personal information for ANY purposes as tall.
I asked her to confirm, who is their Information Officer duly appointed as per POPIA - she told me I must hold on and she will put me through.
She then put me on hold and within 10 seconds dropped the call.
The complaint on Hello Pieter is merely a courtesy to the company to give them a chance to reply. I will be approaching the information regulator and will lodge a formal complaint based on how this company handles this complaint.
