Exchanging a gift item

In Jan2015 I bought my unborn child a romper and later on in May a friend of mine bought me the same romper as a gift. On Friday the 05 June 2015bi returned the gift for an exchange. I was told the exchange cannot be done since the romper is off season and they don't have it on their system anymore
