A strong clash in values
Randfontein is a small town. We support local. We know the people personally at most of the stores, mostly by name. It's not like in big cities. We care and connect. Eagle came there to Tambotie and I warmly supported them. I bought big amounts from them. I had warm discussiobs with the two sales ladies and they know me very well. Over the week-end again I purchased about R3000 of goodies from them. One of the tops they did not have in my size. The sales lady gave me a bigger size. I liked it but was not sure if it would fit. I was in two minds if I should not go fit first, but she assured me I can just bring it back if it does not fit. I then went home and it looked horrible on me. The next day, a Sunday, I went back to Tambotie to dine with my family at a restaurant there and took it with me in the bag and with the tag still on to get my refund as it was on my way to the restaurant. When I came there, the sales lady remembered me and what we agreed, but she could not refund me, they did not give her the authority, she had to call the manager. I dont know the manager, she is never involved with the clients. For her I was just a number. They had the item, they took it back, but she acted like they were doing me some favour to give me my money back. She could also not do it and had to phone other managers from other stores. What a mission! There was nothing wrong with the item it was exactly like I took it the previous day! My blood sugar was low and I felt dizzy and lightheaded and like I wanted to faint, and I had to leave as I did not want to fight. I did nit have capacity for this nonsense. So I just left. I gave the money (it was about R350) to them as a farewell gift and determined in my heart that I would not easily ever go back. They lost a good client. Our values clashed. Thwy preferred red tape and burocracy over customer relationship, righteousness and truth. Truth because the sales lady did remember me and that we made this deal that I would fit at home, but somehow this did not matter now. Righteousness because they in effect stole mt money, took it and did not return it when I gave them back their stuff as agreed. And customer relationship because they did not value me, our agreement, my time with my family, or our relationship - they seem to only care about red tape nonsense that means nothing to me. So we have a clash of values and therefore I cannot see myself going back again.
