DURBAN SOUTH TOYOTA: CUSTOMER IS WRONG!!!!

I had taken my toyota vehicle to durban south toyota on the 18/03/17 for an annual service. As per procedure, the vehicle was pre-inspected and all faults and flaws were recorded. I recieved my vehicle about 2 hours later and after having some issues with the debit card machine, I paid in full and was given the keys to my car. No post inspection was done by the consultant. After arriving home I noticed that my rims were chipped in various places and in various severity. I duly emailed the dealership and also emailed toyota South Africa and Toyota Japan. This measure was taken due to previous incidents experinced with Durban South Toyota and the lack of service received. The service manager then calls me on the instruction of Toyota Japan I am sure. The lacklasture tone toward my complaint was highly evident. He arranged to pay me a visit and did so the next day and took around 5 minutes taking pictures of the damaged rims. I then had a call from him around 18;45 saying that the dealer principal was attending to an important delegation was not unable to review his report. Three days past and still no reply, and I then get a reply form the case operater from Toyota South Africa saying they are still awaiting a response from the dealer principal. I rep**** stating my dissatisfaction and violation of my consumer protected rights. This morning (3/04/17)I get a call from the service technician (not the service manager) who wanted to find out what was happening. I told him that I needed to speak to the service manager or dealer principal and he says that neither of them will respond as this issue was escalated to a higher authourity. I then respectfully asked him to ask said individuals about any quieries he had. I then received an email, which I deemed very abrupt and threatening in it's tone, from Toyota South Africa saying that after an intensive investigation (based on pictures no less) it was found that my rims were not refurbished correctly and nothing in their workshop could of inflicted any damage, and that they take no liability and therefore close this matter. My issue is this:

* this is not the first occassion where *********** workmanship from Durban South Toyota has caused damage to my vehicle and has taken my valuable time and effort in sorting it out. All said incidents are reorded on their system as well as Toyota South Africa and Japan

* the treatment I received is unconstitutional to say the least. I am entitled to basic rights relating to respect and non judgement but I am treated as an insignificant little man.

* my belief is that if I was from a different sector/class I would be treated as a customer not a ********

I can only base my queries on experinces and the record at this dealership and the treatment I have received speak volumes in validating my claims. I am now left with chipped rims after spending in excess of R4000 at this dealership and their investigation to find faults in me rather than look directly at the evidence is symbolic of the utter collapse of reasonable customer service (for certain individuals) in this country.

Hi Calvin,

I'm responding on behalf of our Service Manager.

I have spoken to our Dealer Principal as well about your situation. In the majority of cases where we have customers raise a concern or complaint regarding their experience at our Dealership, we go over and above to rectify or repair the problems.

The circumstances surrounding your car (an Auris which has been fitted with Lexus rims, and further - the rims have been refurbished) makes it very difficult for us to satisfy your demands.

It is common knowledge that when a customer fits non-authorised accessories or parts onto their Toyota - they are basically compromising the longevity and reliability of their car.

Had your rims been original Toyota Auris rims - and not been re-sprayed, we could take the matter to Toyota South Africa and come to a resolution.

As it stands, any warranty or claim for the paint chips on your non-standard rims cannot be entertained by Toyota South Africa or us at Durban South Toyota.

I trust you will find my explanation reasonable.

Best,

Zakaria Desai - Durban South Toyota
