VERY PATHETIC AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM DUNLOP MOTOR CITY IN MIDRAND
On the morning of 04 October 2019 I drove into Dunlop Motor City in Midrand to have the engine sign cleared as they are the once who fitted a” mini-catalytic converter” into my Mercedes Benz C180. To cut the long story short the clearing of the engine sign led to further complications including the car battery packing up and needing replacement which I had to buy for R2600.00 from Battery Centre. Even after replacing the battery my car could still not start and was, I rudely told that I had to push my car outside their workshop as the “management” was about to close the shop for the day. None of the managers present on the day did not care or bother to find out what was wrong with the car and how they could assist instead they were worried about the safety of their diagnostic machine which in my view was a clear demonstration of being completely insensitive.
For the safety of my car, I had to push it to the mechanic just behind Dunlop and the guy tried his best to assist and he also could not get it to start. The next Monday morning I went back to the mechanic and he said the problem could be with the control unit which was not sending the spark. He then suggested that I take the unit to Auto ECU Berdfordview to be checked. On the 08 October 2019, I took the unit to Auto ECU and paid R280.00 to get it checked, I was then told that there was nothing wrong with the unit. I then went back to the mechanic and he refitted the control unit, but the car still could not start. The next day of 09 Oct 2019, I took the control unit back to Auto ECU and explained to them that the car is still not starting and there is no spark on the Unit. They rechecked it and once more told me that there was nothing wrong with the unit. I went back to my mechanic and he again refitted and again the car still failed to start. He told me that he is giving up and he also doesn’t know why the car could not start. I then called an auto electrician to check if there were no wiring problems and he confirmed nothing was wrong with the wiring.
After my car having spent almost two weeks at the mechanic who then charged me R650.00 for all his effort and storage space. On the 12 October 2019, I then decided to call my insurance to have the car towed to another mechanic in Commercia. The mechanic at Commercia then conducted diagnostic tests and he also pointed to the control unit. He charged me an amount of R2700.00 to carry out the diagnostics. My car is currently with the mechanic at Commercia and to date the problem is still unresolved. I am perturbed and it is quite clear from the call received from Dunlop Motor City, Midrand last Friday that they are not prepared and willing to take responsibility and accept liability for the damages caused to my car. I have since asked the caller to reduce his response in writing and until the time I wrote this review Dunplo has provided me with their written response confirming that they are not willing and prepared to remedy the situation.
