Tyremart Tyre and Exhaust Hillcrest / Dunlop Hillcrest, Damage Vehicle And Then Try And Worm Out Of The Responsibility Of Repairing

This review hopefully saves somebody out there the absolute misfortune that we have had to endure by utilising the services of Dunlop Tyre & Exhaust Hillcrest who have just recently changed franchises to Tyremart Hillcrest.

We took my wife's Ford Fiesta (early July) in for replacement of all four shock absorbers as well as two new tyres. The work was completed the same day and we fetched the vehicle late that afternoon ****erally as they were closing 17h20 ish) so we paid up, drove off and thought nothing further.

The week that followed was one of those really rainy weeks where it just rained and rained for days so whenever you left home or went to the shops you exited the car and made for shelter, what we didn't discover untill we had a dry day the following Saturday at home while washing the car was that both fenders were kinked at the exact same spot on either side of the vehicle.

So we duly took the vehicle back the Monday afternoon and presented it to the manager of the shop, a hindian guy by the name of Minesh, he played dumb to the whole thing and for some reason zoned in on a small scrath on the drivers side door as evidence that this scratch had caused the damage to the fenders, even though the damage was to both fenders (no scratch on the left hand side door) kinked in exactly the same place.

Minesh was starting to really annoy us by his suave attitude and I think he realised he wasn't far off from a tight klap from me, so he said he'll get back to us with the way forward as I told him that I was going to present him with quotes from panebeaters for the corrective work.

It is clear that the Ford Fiesta was picked up on a hoist in wrong spot and the fenders had taken the weight of the car and simply kinked in, as if the shop wouldnt have known this ?

The next day Minesh phoned me back and told me to obtain quotes and submit to him which we did.

After follow up and more follow up for more than a month we were told that an assesor would be appointed to come and look at the car.

The assesor made arrangements to view the vehicle a few days later and said right away that the car had been picked up on the incorrect spot [too far forward] on the base of the fender not the actual chassis as such the damage had occured by the vehicle's weight on the fenders. The assesor signed off on the quotes (Clark and Kent and Durban Panelbeater's) and said that the insurance company would be in touch.

Two weeks later we get a "Offer Letter" from New National Assurance Company which provides for payent of repairs at a reduced rate ! the Clark and Kent quote was R9,627.30 and the New National "Assesed Quote" was for R6,520.80 - after querying this with New National was told that this is teh third party settlement value and that if I wasn't happy that I should find a cheaper panelbeater !

I told the lady, Nirmala (who was also a condescending b**ch) to fly a kite and that I wasn't taking my vehicle to a "cheaper" panelbeater for damage that was caused by Dunlop Tyre and Exhaust Hillcrest / Tyremart Hillcrest.

After much deliberation and having to threaten New National they eventually decided that they would revise the offer by another R1,200.00 in order that the work was accepted by Clark and Kent.

Clark and Kent have been absolutely splendid in accomodating this matter (we have always taken our repairs to Clark and Kent, perhaps this is part of the reason that they entertained this ridiculous state of affairs).

The vehicle was finally fixed and we got the car back, but, it has taken three months of follow up calls, pleading for action, uneccesary aggrevation and couldn't car attitude for damages inflicted to our vehicle by the service provider !

I will never ever deal with Dunlop Tyre and Exhaust / Tyremart ever again, I am spreading the word to everybody that we know how the manager (Minesh) will try and shirk his responsibility or rather NOT take responsibility for the damages that they caused.

Totally unacceptable ! three months !! to rectify the matter .....
