Never Again - Terrible customer service
I am very dissatisfied by the service I have received from Northgate Tyres and Exhaust. In August 2015 I had my vehicles brake pads replaced and the discs skimmed. The brakes kept screeching and I assumed that the brake pads needed a period of time to settle as has been my experience with brake pads before. The brakes also seemed scratchy at times. By December, when the problem had still not subsided, I returned to the branch and spoke to the owner/manager who told me that the manufacturer of the brake pads had changed their way of making the brake pads and had added metal filings or something and that the brake pads were simply noisy, but not causing damage. He also told me that many clients were complaining about the same issue, but that they could glue something onto the brake pad to minimize the noise. Since I didn't have time, I took his word for it that the brake pads were not faulty and wouldn't do damage to my vehicle. The noise became worse and eventually was present permanently while driving. On Monday, I took the vehicle back to Northgate Tyres and Exhaust where I was, upon inspection, that the brake pads had to be replaced again. Since I have driven less than 17000km since the break pads were replaced, and since they have given problems ever since, I questioned whether the brake pads had been replaced at all. Hein then made it clear that if I dared question their integrity, they would do nothing to help me. I waited for at least an hour while he and the owner/manager decided what, if anything, would be done about the situation. I was eventually told that they would arrange a meeting with the supplier of the brake pads. I asked that he get back to me with the terms of the warranty on the brake pads - this was never done. Hein eventually phoned me late on Tuesday afternoon to inform me that the meeting with the supplier would be set up for early next week. I find the service which I have received absolutely unacceptable and am not satisfied with the suggested resolution. I have nothing to do with the supplier and should not be expected to have a meeting with any of their representatives, who is likely to fob me off with jargon and excuses. I feel that not only have I received unacceptable service from Northgate Tyres and Exhaust and Hein, in particular, but that the product does not meet the standards as required by the consumer protection act: Consumer’s rights to safe, good quality goods – SEC 55. (1) This section does not apply to goods bought at an auction, as contemplated in section 45. (2) Except to the extent contemplated in subsection (6), every consumer has a right to receive goods that— (a) are reasonably suitable for the purposes for which they are generally intended; (b) are of good quality, in good working order and free of any defects; (c) will be useable and durable for a reasonable period of time, having regard to the use to which they would normally be put and to all the surrounding circumstances of their supply; and (d) comply with any applicable standards set under the Standards Act, 1993 (Act No. 29 of 1993), or any other public regulation. I also find the inconvenience and time that I have had to spend on this matter unacceptable. Despite having contacted the Dunlop Zone headoffice and was promised resolution, I have not heard anything further.
