Dunlop Brits sold me second-hand mags for R19,000!!!

On 2 October 2014 we purchased 4 tyres and Mercedes Mag Wheels for our VW Caddy Vehicle. This cost us R9,500.00. As soon as we left we experienced huge issues with the wheels bouncing as if they are going to come off. We took it back three times to have the wheels balanced. Every time it was the same.

Eventually, we took it to another Tyre Supplier and they checked the balancing. It turned out that the wheels could not fit onto the Caddy perfectly centre. The guide hole was bigger than the guide on the Caddy.

We returned to complain and they ordered a replacement set of A-Line Mags (much cheaper), which we fitted, along with our own tyres, on 09 December 2014. On this occasion, they charged us an additional R 9,500.00 but gave us no receipt or invoice. They explained that they will give us a refund if this solves the problem. It did not.

After this, the wheels were still bouncing and further efforts to balance them failed. We decided to abandon any further efforts and to accept that the wheels we were sold were damaged or had other issues.

When we returned on 06 January 2015 to this franchise to buy another pair of tyres, for our BMW 6-series, which cost us R6,000.00, they asked how the wheels were doing. I explained that we have abandoned all efforts and accepted that they were faulty and unable to maintain balance.

to this, they insisted that we bring the vehicle back again, so that they can fit other wheels and tyres, "to do a test." This was done by July 2015, when they fitted a set of Golf GTi Mags and our tyres to the vehicle. They told us to return if this also does nto work, THEN we would receive our refund.

This also did not resolve the problem and we eventually sold the vehicle on 09 July 2015, as is.

When we returned on 11 December 2020 to buy new wheels, the owner immeduartely confronted me and told me "I still owe him money. I left and never paid for the GTi Mags." He was not sure when and he insisted that I arrived with the Mercedes Mags.

I immediately offered to check all my records, which I did. I returned on 14 December 2020 and presented him with photos of the vehicle, the various wheels that were fitted and the proof of payment of R 25,000.00 in total, on my bank statements.

He accused me of being a ***** and told me that "I damaged all my rims hitting pot-holes, so that is why I paid R9,500.00 again." I told him that it was impossible that I could damage all four my wheels, within 33 days, and drive to him, then damage them again.

I ended up leaving, since he started getting physically aggressive, accusing me of theft and telling me never to buy from him again.

I have proof of all my purchases, photographs and a recording of our last discussion and his threats and accusations.
