Disappointed

Hello I recently purchased a swing ball set and upon removing the product from its packaging I felt a sharp ***** on the finger and had blood oozing out. Upon inspection of the pole, found a sharp metal piece protruding from it. My question is, is the product not checked before sent into the market or the company does not have the best interest of consumers safety in mind. I would really like to receive a full explanation as to why safety measures are not taken by the company and what l what looks like rust inside the pole when it's a new product.
