False product claims on can of Dulux paint

I bought a 20 litre can of white Dulux MaxiCover Nucote. I told the sales assistant in store that we needed to use it to paint our kids' rooms. Something washable. It said on the can FOR INTERIOR WALLS. It looked good. It was also on special and he said it would be good, so we bought it.

I spent R4500 getting 4 bedrooms painted with it about 3 weeks ago. I noticed a small mark on the wall last week and wiped it with a damp cloth (no detergent) and the paint wiped straight off. My cloth was white with paint! Obviously I found this completely unacceptable.

I looked on the Dulux website to register for the guarantee and the product is not even listed. Yet on the pack it says QUALITY GUARANTEE. So I phoned Dulux to find out how to register for the guarantee and they said "Oh that product is not guaranteed :-)" Despite the pack saying QUALITY GUARANTEE.

I also said that I had painted 4 bedrooms with it and the paint wipes straight off and they said happily "Oh that paint is for ceilings only. Not for walls." Despite it saying very clearly on the front of the can FOR INTERIOR WALLS. Obviously us general non-paint expert members of the public need to be mind readers. If the pack says one thing then we should know that what it says on the pack is clearly not what the paint is intended for.

They offered to give me two free 20 litres of paint. But no mention of any sort of compensation for the time and R4500 spent painting the 4 rooms already. I'm highly unimpressed and quite blown away by the obviously false claims on their cans of paint. One would think you could trust the brand Dulux to be good. Clearly I have been very mistaken. I have learnt a very expensive lesson. Beware of Dulux.

"Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008
The purpose of the CPA is to prevent exploitation or harm to consumers by regulating the way in which businesses interact with consumers, and market their products and services.
