******** Public Shaming and POPIA Violations by School Management
This school is engaging in highly damaging, ******** practices that target the emotional well-being of its Matric learners. Management recently held a mass meeting where individual academic results were exposed publicly, and learners were called out by their full names in front of an entire room of parents and peers to face public embarrassment for underperforming. Despite clear legal boundaries under South African law, management is scheduled to host a second upcoming meeting specifically to continue this exact practice. Under POPIA, a learner's marks are protected personal information and cannot be publicly disclosed without explicit consent. Furthermore, publicly shaming learners violates Section 10 of the Constitution regarding human dignity. Even members of the school’s own teaching staff have openly acknowledged that exposing learners like this in a public space is uncalled for. Yet, leadership refuses to change their approach. This school prioritizes public ************ over professional, private, and constructive educational support. Parents looking for a safe, supportive, and legally compliant learning environment for their children should look elsewhere

Unprofessional treatment of learners
Our children moved to Duke’s seeking a supportive, high-quality educational environment. Instead, they have been subjected to emotional distress, targeted humiliation, and ******** academic threats. This culminated in a highly inappropriate meeting held on July 13th, alongside ongoing toxic classroom interactions. We demand immediate attention to, and investigation of, the following severe grievances: 1. Public Humiliation and Breach of Academic Privacy (July 13th Meeting) During the meeting on July 13th, the academic marks of the Grade 12 transfer students were publicly displayed in front of parents, peers, and staff. Academic performance is private personal information. Publicly exposing these marks to shame students is a severe breach of privacy and a violation of basic dignity. This public exposure was clearly designed to embarrass and marginalize the transfer students rather than offer constructive academic support. 2. **************, Verbal Abuse, and Demoralizing Behavior by Teachers Instead of nurturing these learners during their critical matric year, several teachers have engaged in systematic discouragement and emotional abuse: Targeted Insults: Teachers have repeatedly told these students that they "need a special school" and have explicitly referred to them as "dumb." Harmful Comparisons: Teachers are actively comparing the transfer students' marks with those of the existing Duke's students in a derogatory manner, fostering a hostile and divisive school environment. Rather than teaching, these educators are actively destroying the self-esteem and mental well-being of learners who are already under immense matric pressure. 3. ******* Threats Regarding NSC Examinations Most alarmingly, students and parents have been threatened that if the transfer students do not "obey" the school’s rules, they will be barred from writing their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. This threat is entirely *******. Under the Department of Basic Education (DBE) regulations, a school cannot arbitrarily prevent a registered learner from writing their final NSC exams as a disciplinary measure or for failing to comply with internal school rules. Using our children's futures as leverage to threaten and intimidate them is an egregious abuse of authority. Required Actions Duke's Private School has a duty of care to protect its learners and provide a safe learning environment. We expect the school management to address these issues immediately by taking the following steps: 1 A Formal Apology: A written and verbal apology to the affected students and their families for the public humiliation on July 13th. 2 Disciplinary Action: A formal investigation into the teachers involved in the verbal abuse, name-calling, and ******* threats, followed by appropriate disciplinary measures. 3 Written Assurance on NSC Exams: A written guarantee from school management confirming that no student's registration or right to write their NSC exams will be compromised or threatened. 4 Sensitivity and Professionalism: An immediate halt to any verbal abuse, negative comparisons, and discriminatory remarks in the classroom. We trust that you will treat this matter with the extreme gravity it deserves. If these issues are not resolved swiftly and professionally, we will have no choice but to escalate this matter to the Department of Basic Education (DBE), the South African Council for Educators (SACE), and Umalusi to protect our children's rights and future. We look forward to your urgent written response outlining how the school intends to rectify this situation.

Poor school management and not fully registered school
The school deserves a zero rating star. I refuse to believe that the school is properly registered with the Department of Education. Don’t even bother registering your kids there, from the rude principal and his wife who can’t take accountability of anything, when you raised concerns the first thing that they asked of is that you paid your school fees. I paid the school on time. Their curriculum is outdated they never updated their textbooks in line with CAPS, when I was purchasing the textbooks in January other parents were even shocked to see kids using Oxfords instead of Platinum textbooks. The school doesn’t follow the ATP to show that kids write exams in December because they chase financial interests more than the academic and the wellbeing of our kids. I asked why are they writing exams in December when there are no transport services picking up kids to school since all the schools in Ferndale have closed. They told me to compromise for my kid- uber for her, what about her safety, with which money? She’s a girl child. All they care is to delay academics so that parents who didn’t pay the school fees can cover it up . What about us who paid on time? Their school curriculum only focuses on a classroom learning experience no diversity. In January we were given a list of stationary, not even in a single day, my kid came and said we have a project to submit, in a world where kids are encouraged for innovation and technology, none is happening in that school. I took a transfer letter and only to find discrepancies in the transfer letter and the school reports received mid year. Upon inquiry, the wife called me to explain that they were not using SA-SAMS to grade the marks of learners and I asked to have the explanation in writing so that I can take it to her new school, she requested the email of the new school. That’s invading privacy and why are they not providing to me as a parent. What proof do I have that they will submit to the new school? Imagine a school where you request a transfer letter they have to beg you not to take it because all they care is money. Since their calendar is not aligned with the government school calendar, I asked how will they align their 2026 calendar with GDE, the teacher said my kid can write early than other kids. lol I mean how on earth would that happen? I asked if learners write school exam late, when do they get the time to mark and submit their schedule, I got no reply. In June my kid had to miss lessons for a week because her transport was not available due to their inconsistencies with their school calendar. The school reports are received two weeks after the school has reopened. No parent school meeting because they are scared we will raise this issue. My concern is that if a grade 11 leaner can write an exam by December not aligned with the Department of education examination dates, meaning the leaner can access the exam questions from other schools before they write. Who approves this, why is everything not aligned with the government systems? The school admit leaners by term 3 who chased from other schools. They care about quantity rather than quality.

Worst place ever
Zero stars! The staff at this school are insinuative, rude, and display disgusting behavior. My child had a horrific experience, and the school's failure to address the issues shows their incompetence. The teachers, specifically Mr. Ngobo and Mamoyo, have appalling attitudes towards students. The receptionist, Mr. Mabena, is equally unacceptable. The way they treat learners is outrageous. Honestly, the school would be better off shutting down if they can't provide a safe and respectful environment. Avoid this place at all costs!!
