Returned parcel without even attempting to deliver

Why do we have to give cellphone numbers, alternative contact number and accurate address if all of that information will not be used to ensure our parcels are delivered on time. This is the third instance my delivery with DSV has been returned citing unsuccessful delivery without them calling me in an attempt to deliver or communicate any challenges with the delivery itself. they are very good at sending countless sms's saying the delivery was unsuccessful, but the question is, did they even try to deliver the parcel or they just doing as they please not taking into account how soon do we need the items they drive around with without attempting to hand them over to the rightful owners.
