3 or 4 years ago I cancelled my Multichoice subscription. I called the agent who confirmed that the account would be cancelled immediately and I wouldn't be charged further. Instead, they continued billing me for the rest of the month. Since then they have had a number of agencies calling me to "remind" me of an outstanding amount of around R400. Each time has been in bursts of a few weeks at a time and each time I explain this situation to them and after a few weeks they go quiet for about 4 or 5 months again.
I have no doubt that with Multichoice's incompetence and stupidity that they will eventually get to that golden mark of R400 in costs in trying to get this R400 out of me.
Multichoice advertised that they record those conversations for their protection and mine so they need to go back to the recording and check what was said as based on what their call centre agent told me at the time of cancellation, I owe them nothing.

DStv service is a month-to-month contract - when you pay your subscription, the contract for that month is fixed.
It is the responsibility of the subscriber to inform MultiChoice before the next payment date that they will not be using the service for the upcoming month.
Should this not be done the subscriber will be liable for any additional cost accumulated on the account.
Your account was due on the 25 October 2015 and we did not receive any request to have the service disconnected.
On the 2 November 2015 you were advised that your account is in arrears and that your service will be disconnected if payment is not made. You then advised the consultant that your service must be disconnected as you only wanted the service for the world cup.
To downgrade or sus pensioned services you need to schedule it on your account. This may be done by phone us or use self-service at any time to request the change, which we will implement on your next payment date.
Your service remained active till the 13 November 2015 and was automatically disconnected due to the outstanding amount on your account. At this time your account accumulated an amount of R443.37.
Feel free to contact us should you require any further assistance.
Regards
Rupert
