UniPIN ******* practices
UniPin is a service division of the Blue Label Telecoms company - a public listed company on the JSE ... see their website:
https://www.bluelabeltelecoms.co.za/grp-cigicell.php
We are renting a house in Johannesburg that is connected with UniPin water meter.
According to the SA law, it is completely ******* for any company or business to resell water and electricity - only Johannesburg water and Eskom are the sellers of water and electricity respectively - but this is not the case with UniPin.
Let me elaborate: We buy our water vouchers from UniPin - when we first moved in this house with the recharge water; the charges were as follows:
- 1st R100 = 3000 liters. - 2nd R100 = 2500 liters - 3rd R100 = 2200 liters. -4th R100 = 1800 liters.
When we bought during the month we used to receive 1800 liters for each R100.
However, slowly slowly this amount of water started to run into monthly decline or decrease, today, the charges are:
- 1st R100 = 2200 liters. - 2nd R100 = 2000 liters. - 3rd R100 = 1800 liters.
If we buy during the month then the amount of water we receive is: 1300 liters.
See the Johannesburg Water Tariff chart here:
https://www.joburg.org.za/documents_/Documents/TARIFFS/2020-21%20Tariffs/Water%20tariffs%202020/Water%20Tariff%20-%20Tariff%20Amounts.pdf
According the Johannesburg Water department;
1. We should be receiving the first 6000 liters or 6 kiloliters for FREE, we get ABSOLUTELY nothing.
2. The kiloliter over the permitted FREE 6 kiloliter - 6 kiloliter to 10 kiloliter cost R40 - meaning: R0,01 cent per liter ... UniPin is charging us:
- 1st R100 = 2200 liters = R0,***5 per liter - UniPin is *******ly profiting a massive R0,035 per liter, that is a massive R35 per kiloliter UniPin profit.
- 2nd R100 = 2000 liters = R0,05 per liter = R50 per kiloliter UniPin profit.
- 3rd R100 = 1800 liters = R0,055 per liter = R55,55 per kiloliter UniPin profit.
If we buy during the month = R100 = 1300 liters = R0,0769 per liter = R76,92 per kiloliter UniPin profit.
Above all of this; their service is really shambolik to say the least, their water loading systems are not up to any level as following:
1. When we buy a voucher it takes us good few hours to get a token - system response is embarrassingly terrible.
2. Communication with their service staff is even worse - there is NO communication with their service staff - their advertised phone number does not respond - if you call, then a message will come to say: the number you are dialing does not exist.
So, not only they are STEELING and *******LY reselling water to the public but their service is absolutely disastrous - I strongly believe that this company should be prosecuted for the following crimes:
- RESELLING WATER TO THE PUBLIC. AND; - DISASTROUS SERVICE.
I would love to take this matter on with the authorities against UniPin, if you know of any lawyer who would be prepared to take this matter on contingency then kindly advise us.
