Unexplained Reboot/rescan of DStv decoder

For the last two years at least, our decoder rebooted/rescanned 4-6 times a day. We accepted this as the result of an ageing decoder. However, for the last six months we noticed that the rescans/reboots became too regular for it to be a decoder problem. It rebooted/rescanned regularly especially when important programs are on. Usually just before and during the seven o' clock news on channel 144. During the SA versus All Black rugby match on 7 Oct 17, it rebooted 3 (three) times within 80 minutes!! On the DStv Forum there are numerous complaints about this unacceptable practice. The general concensus is that this is a DStv ploy to force subscribers to upgrade to a more expensive package. The DStv Helpdesk explanation is that it is a hard drive problem. Really?? The record and playback function has NO problem whatsoever. The bottom line: DStv and Multichoice have no competition at all. So they can terrorise its subscribers even when the high monthly subscription is up to date. The DStv contract make it very difficult to dump the service provider when its service is not up to standard.

Dear Rupert, Thank you for the reply regarding the regular rebooting/rescanning of my SD PVR decoder. Something does not make sense though. I mentioned that it reboots especially during prime time broadcasts, BUT not only during those times. It is also rebooting /rescanning at all hours outside prime times. Since last night it is happening at irregular intervals but exactly on the hour. One can actually set your watch on these hourly rescannings. Please note: These rescannings are not every hour, but when it happens it is exactly on the hour. Today it was at 10:00 and 13:00. Please note that someone else on Hello Peter comlained that his Explora Decoder is also rebooting at regular intervals. Will it make any difference purchasing an Explora decoder?
