Unbalanced sport broadcasting by DSTV

I have been a client of MultiChoice for a long time and complained about the same issues many times without any improvement, actually the concerns I have are worsening all the time. I had the privilege of working in lots of countries and can say that the overall quality of MultiChoice programs is good, but the price of the service must rate with some of the most expensive in the world. In South Africa we are not blessed with a choice of suppliers and MultiChoise have a monopoly, which is never a sound situation. Unhappy clients have nowhere to go. There is no other professional "cable TV" supplier in the country. This leads into my concerns which are the following: 1. Unbalanced sporting event broadcasting. All sports, or at least all known sports in the country, should have some level of exposure on Dstv. This is not the case. One sport, soccer, or football, have about three quarters of the exposure time (Related to sporting channels), while all other sports have to share the rest of the available time. There are evenings/nights when two, or at the best three of the sporting channels would be airing something else than soccer. There was even an evening where ALL sporting channels were occupied by soccer early evening and later that night, one channel broadcasted another sport. Yes, I know it is football world cup year, but my complaint does not relate only to this year. This scenario has been ongoing for a number of years now and all concerns raised are ignored. Surely sport broadcasting cannot be as unbalanced and favouring ONE sport to this extend? Soccer is the number 1 sport in the world and needs sufficient exposure, but to totally dominate all other sports is not fair to sport *****s in general. 2. Why is Dstv deliberately moving away from broadcasting quality boxing? Viewers get the odd boxing event broadcasted and then it is not a prime event as well. I see there will be another South African world title affair in about two weeks from now. We had an "Eastern African regional event" broadcasted some time ago. Weeks and sometimes months go by with even these "lesser" boxing events being broadcasted. It is good to support local sport, but don't do it as a replacement for top class performances. The comparison of only showing local soccer on TV can be drawn. Will our soccer *****s be happy with this? Where are the Lomachenco fights? He is currently the pound for pound king, yet I never saw him fighting on Dstv. Does South Africa know Terence Crawford? He is the number 2 pound for pound fighter in the world. I don't even want to talk about Genady Golovkin. We saw only one of his recent fights. Then there were the two heavyweight eliminators. These were not broadcasted. South Africans are being ****** of watching an exiting era in heavyweight history developing. There are two excellent top heavyweights today in Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, but how many South Africans have ever seen them fighting. The heavyweight clash, between Wladimir Klitscho and Anthony Joshua is labelled as the heavyweight fight of the century, yet it was shoo shoo broadcasted on channel 193 and not advertised anywhere on the regular sporting channels. Why not? Many people missed a brilliant fight due to this. It is like Dstv want to down-play good events till boxing die a natural death on TV. Then there is the comeback of WWE or something like this. While I believe all sport should have its place in the sun, please don't throw combat sporting *****s this as a crumb from the table. It is an insult. Yet, it has a weekly spot on the Dstv calendar and also a lot of broadcasting time. Why not airing real combat sports like cage fighting? (UFC, etc.) (Yes we at least have EFC (But this is on SABC not Dstv), thank you for that).

I also do not buy it that boxing ratings are low. Surveys can be manipulated to fit purpose. The other answer provided that boxing is expensive seems to be more like the real reason for stopping the airing of high quality fights. But then boxing always was expensive and Dstv was prepared to spend that money. Where is that money going to now? Invested in even more soccer? I believe Dstv is harming the whole boxing industry by not broadcasting high quality boxing events. There is no interest created in the sport, or at least less, because kids do not see the real craft or art, which boxing is and are not interested to pursue the sport any more. Please bring back our good boxing. And please don't feed boxing *****s some other form of entertainment in the place thereof.
