Un-affordable for Pensioners

I think it's extremely unfair to expect pensioners' to pay the same rates to enjoy DSTV. The price is expensive for most let alone those retired people who have small incomes and few entertainment options. All good and well for those in retirement villages/old age homes, however what about those who can't even afford to live in such homes and are living independently in small cottages etc. My parents have recently had to relocate due to illness and are living in a small bachelor apartment, my Father is a great rugby and cricket fan and has always been able to view the Supersport channels as he had dual view with my Brother, however now he is going to be living on another property and is not able to share dual viewing. I have made enquiries and it seems he has no option but to pay the current DSTV subscription fee of R700 + or be unable to watch live rugby and cricket.!! For people who have to be really careful with their income, this is simply un-affordable. Multichoice, I think you should really re-look at your policies regarding pensioners' rates and give these people something special to enjoy during their final years! My Father is going to be devastated - no live sport!!

Hello JennyBu,

While we can't offer a pensioner discount, we do offer a reduced rate to registered retirement villages to accommodate senior citizens. The one factor that keeps us from offering discounts to pensioners who live in freestanding houses is the portability of the DStv decoder.

It means we can't manage where the decoder is being used and if it's used by the pensioner. We've looked exhaustively into viable solutions that would work for both MultiChoice and our retired customers but haven't found anything yet. We understand that the price of DStv Premium isn't always within everyone's budget, and it's for this reason that we offer a variety of packages to suit a range of tastes and pockets. Our packages start from as little as R39 per month.
