Total abuse of sports broadcasting rights
<p>Hallo DSTV,</p> <p>I have a serious problem with your handling of national sport broadcasting. Before I can lodge a complaint with the PP I have to try resolve this. Between yourselves and the SABC you have failed the South African public. The Protea's are currently representing our country in New Zealand, and you have the rights to broadcast this. Therefore the massive majority of South Africans can not watch or support our side because so few of us can afford DSTV, added to that the only station we can watch it on is SS2, which just so happens to only be available on your most expensive and ridiculously over priced bundle. HOW CAN THIS BE ACCEPTABLE!!!</p> <p>I think it is disgusting, it is shocking and it is a form of entrapment and ********* on a entire nation. Not allowing us the opportunity to affordably watch our national teams perform, where they represent us! Shame on you, shame on your organisation!</p> <p>I am certain if you look hard enough you will find it will be far more beneficial to air national sports teams on the cheapest bundle. Allowing millions more South Africans to support THEIR teams!</p>

Thank you for taking your time writing to us, your complaint was brought to SuperSport’s attention.
Sporting bodies depend substantially on the sale of their broadcasting rights for survival. As governments have pressing and competing priorities, broadcasters become the major source of funding for the sporting bodies.
The funding derived from the sale of rights is used to ensure they run and maintain very competitive sporting codes and retain talent by offering competitive remunerations.
We have recently witnessed an exodus of talent to overseas leagues mainly in pursuit of competitive packages.
SuperSport, like most broadcasters around the world, endeavours to bring our subscribers the best sporting events despite the increasingly escalating costs associated with those events.
We offer certain sport on certain packages. SS2 has always been the home of cricket on the SuperSport platform and in appreciation of the economic realities that not all will be able to be on premium, we make one-hour highlights programmes available to all packages.
Highlights and news updates are also regularly featured on the Blitz channel.
There is no attempt to “entrap” or “*********” anyone. SuperSport’s offering remain relatively cheaper than comparable sport broadcasters throughout the world.
